Romford Labour is celebrating a milestone achievement after Labour candidate for St Alban’s Ward, Jane Keane, was elected in the local elections on 5 May 2022.

Councillor Jane Keane’s win marks the first time in over 20 years that Romford has had a Labour councillor, with the last time being the local elections in 1998.

St Alban’s Ward is one of the new wards formed following changes to the ward boundaries in 2019. It was previously part of Romford Town ward, which held a Conservative majority of more than 600 votes in 2018.

Across Havering, Labour gained 4 new seats in Havering Council, bringing it’s total to 9 councillors.

Councillor Jane Keane said:

“These local elections mark a turning point for Labour in Romford and across Havering. Residents feel frustrated, let down and ready for change.

“The people of Romford have placed their faith in us to listen to them and make sure their issues are heard in the Town Hall. We will not let them down.”
